Welcome to the UK ETA APPROVAL Help Center. This resource is designed to provide you with detailed guidance on every aspect of the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation application process. Whether you need help completing your application, understanding passport requirements, or resolving common issues, you will find relevant information below.

Application Form Help

Our multi-step application form is designed to be intuitive, but we understand that questions may arise during the process. Here is a detailed breakdown of each section of the form and guidance on how to complete it correctly:

Step 1: Travel Information

  • Nationality: Select the nationality shown on the passport you will use to travel to the UK. If you hold dual nationality, choose the nationality of the passport you intend to present at the UK border
  • Arrival date: Enter the date you plan to arrive in the United Kingdom. If your travel plans are not yet confirmed, check the "I don't have any travel dates planned" option. You can still apply without confirmed dates
  • Number of applicants: Specify how many travellers will be included in this application, including yourself. Each traveller's details will be collected separately in the next step

Step 2: Personal Details

  • First and middle name: Enter your first name and any middle names exactly as they appear on your passport. Use letters A-Z only. Do not include titles (Mr, Mrs, Dr)
  • Last name: Enter your last name (surname or family name) exactly as it appears on your passport. If you do not have a last name, enter "N/A"
  • Date of birth: Select your date of birth using the month, day, and year dropdown menus. Ensure this matches the date shown on your passport
  • Email address: Enter a valid email address that you check regularly. All application correspondence, including your reference number and status updates, will be sent to this address
  • Passport nationality: Select the nationality as it appears on your passport. This must match the passport you will use for travel
  • Passport number: Enter your passport number exactly as printed on your passport's data page. Include all letters and numbers. Double-check for transposed digits
  • Passport expiry date: Select the expiration date of your passport using the dropdown menus. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your planned stay

Step 3: Eligibility Questions

You will be asked several yes/no questions about your background. These questions are required by UK immigration authorities. Answer every question truthfully and honestly. Providing false or misleading information may result in your application being denied and could affect your ability to travel to the UK in the future.

Passport Guidance

Your passport is the most important document for your UK ETA application. The following guidance will help ensure your passport meets the necessary requirements:

  • Validity check: Confirm your passport will remain valid for the entire duration of your planned stay. Some countries recommend having at least 6 months' validity remaining
  • Physical condition: Inspect your passport for damage — torn pages, water damage, faded text, or a damaged cover may cause issues at the border
  • Data page clarity: Ensure the information on your passport's data page (photo page) is clearly legible, including your photo, name, passport number, and dates
  • Name consistency: If your name has changed since your passport was issued (due to marriage, legal name change, etc.), consider getting your passport updated before applying
  • Children's passports: Every traveller, regardless of age, must have their own individual passport. Children cannot travel on a parent's passport for ETA purposes

Travel Preparation Tips

Beyond obtaining your UK ETA, proper travel preparation helps ensure a smooth journey to the United Kingdom. Consider the following tips:

  • Apply for your UK ETA well in advance of your travel date — do not wait until the last minute
  • Save your application reference number in multiple locations (email, phone, printed copy)
  • Keep a digital copy of your passport on your phone or in secure cloud storage
  • Verify whether you need any other entry requirements in addition to the ETA (such as travel insurance or specific documentation for your purpose of visit)
  • Check airline requirements, as carriers may verify your ETA status before boarding
  • Ensure your contact information is up to date so you can receive important communications about your application

Common Errors and How to Fix Them

Below are the most common issues applicants encounter and how to resolve them:

  • Form validation errors: These occur when required fields are empty or contain invalid data. Check each highlighted field and ensure the information is correctly formatted
  • Confirmation email not received: Check your spam, junk, and promotions folders. If still not found after 30 minutes, contact support with the email address you used
  • Form will not submit: Ensure you have a stable internet connection. Try clearing your browser cache and reloading the page. If the issue persists, try a different browser
  • Incorrect information submitted: Contact our support team as soon as possible with your reference number. Depending on the processing stage, modifications may be possible
  • Cannot log in: Verify you are using the correct email address and reference number. If you continue to have issues, contact support for assistance
  • Payment declined: Verify your card details are correct and that your card is authorised for online international transactions. Try a different payment method if available

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Entering a name that does not exactly match your passport (including middle names)
  • Using an old or rarely checked email address for your application
  • Applying too close to your travel date without allowing for processing time
  • Providing inaccurate information about criminal history or travel history
  • Not saving your reference number immediately after submission
  • Submitting duplicate applications, which may cause confusion and delays
  • Using an expired or soon-to-expire passport for your application
  • Entering passport numbers with typographical errors or transposed digits

Understanding Error Messages

If you encounter error messages during your application, here are some common ones and what they mean:

  • "Required field": This field must be completed before you can proceed. Fill in the requested information
  • "Invalid email format": Check that your email address is correctly formatted (e.g., [email protected])
  • "Complete date of birth": All three fields (month, day, year) must be selected
  • "Valid email required": Ensure there are no spaces, missing characters, or typos in your email address
