Cancel Your Application

Understanding the Cancellation Process

There are various reasons why you may need to cancel your UK Electronic Travel Authorisation application. Whether your travel plans have changed, you have submitted incorrect information and wish to start fresh, or your circumstances have changed, understanding the cancellation process will help you make informed decisions.

Cancellation of a UK ETA application is not always straightforward, as the possibility of cancellation depends on the current processing stage of your submission. This page provides a comprehensive overview of how cancellation works, when it is possible, and what financial implications you should be aware of.

When Can You Cancel?

The timing of your cancellation request is the most important factor in determining whether it can be processed successfully. Here is a general overview of cancellation possibilities at different stages:

  • Before submission to authorities: If your application has been submitted through our service but has not yet been forwarded to the UK authorities for processing, cancellation is generally possible. Contact us as soon as possible to request cancellation
  • During processing: Once your application has been forwarded to UK authorities and is under review, cancellation options become limited. The authorities control the processing at this stage, and we may not be able to withdraw the application
  • After a decision has been made: If your application has already been approved or denied, cancellation is no longer applicable. An approved ETA can typically be left unused if you no longer need it

How to Request Cancellation

To initiate a cancellation request, follow these steps:

  • Step 1 — Gather your details: Have your application reference number, the email address used during your application, and the full name of the applicant(s) ready
  • Step 2 — Contact support promptly: Email our support team with a clear request to cancel your application. Include your reference number and the reason for cancellation
  • Step 3 — Receive confirmation: Our team will review the status of your application and confirm whether cancellation is possible. You will receive an email response typically within 24 hours
  • Step 4 — Refund assessment: If cancellation is approved, we will assess your eligibility for a refund based on the stage of processing and our refund policy
  • Step 5 — Final confirmation: You will receive a final confirmation email once the cancellation has been processed, along with details of any refund if applicable

Common Reasons for Cancellation

Applicants request cancellation for many different reasons. Some of the most common scenarios include:

  • Travel plans have been cancelled or indefinitely postponed
  • Incorrect information was submitted and a new application needs to be filed
  • A duplicate application was submitted accidentally
  • The applicant obtained a UK visa or other entry clearance, making the ETA unnecessary
  • The applicant's nationality or eligibility status has changed
  • Personal or family circumstances have changed, making travel impossible
  • The applicant discovered they are exempt from the ETA requirement

Refund Implications

Understanding the financial implications of cancellation is important before submitting your request. Our fee structure includes two separate components, each with its own refund conditions:

  • Service fee: Our service fee covers the application assistance we provide. Refund eligibility for the service fee depends on the processing stage at which cancellation is requested. See our refund policy for detailed conditions
  • Government fee: Any government fees collected as part of your application are subject to the UK Government's own refund policies. We do not control government fee refund decisions, and these fees may not be refundable

We recommend reviewing our full refund policy before requesting cancellation so you understand the potential financial outcome.

Cancellation for Multiple Applicants

If your original application included multiple travellers and you wish to cancel only for some of them (while keeping the application active for others), please specify this clearly in your cancellation request. Our team will advise on whether partial cancellation is possible based on how the application was submitted and its current processing status.

What Happens After Cancellation?

Once your cancellation has been confirmed:

  • Your application will no longer be processed or forwarded to authorities (if cancellation was possible before that stage)
  • Any refund due will be processed according to our refund policy timeline
  • If you later decide to travel to the UK, you will need to submit a new application
  • Your account and reference number will remain accessible for your records

Alternatives to Cancellation

Before requesting cancellation, consider whether a modification to your existing application might be sufficient. If your issue is an incorrect detail or a change in travel dates, modifying the application may be quicker and more cost-effective than cancelling and reapplying. Visit our Edit Application page for more information about the modification process.
